Odd Letter from John Lewis

I'm not sure this is the right forum, but......
My Dad died over 5 years ago, and I've just had a letter addressed to him (the name is slightly wrong) from John Lewis which says

"You recently placed an order with us.
For your protection, all orders taken on our website are security checked to authenticate the information and the details provided. Unfortunately, the details you provided have failed our checks and we're unable to complete your order.
You haven't been charged for the goods you ordered."

what should I do? Should I worry?

Comments

  • Just throw it away. As you aren't the person who ordered anything they won't be able to talk to you for DPA reasons anyway.

    The person is dead...

It is usually a hassle, but you can normally get round the DPA aspect if you can prove that the person is dead and you are next of kin etc.

Always worth asking the question, more so if it is potentially linked to fraud etc.

I phoned up customer services and they were really helpful.

They said they think it was just a name and address used randomly, possibly with someone elses bank details, but they're also opening a case and investigating to check, for my peace of mind.

The worry would be if someone has actually managed to open bank or credit accounts in my Dads name.

Even if they did, you are not responsible for any debts so incurred.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Aye true, but you never know how much hassle it could cause.

What if OP is living in their deceased father's house and the debt is racked up in that address? Companies sending the debt collectors to the address and them not believe OP when they say that their father has been deceased for a number of months/years (when the last transaction on the card has been only a few weeks ago). Lots of stress and opening up old wounds.

    You never know!!
