Im looking to book a holiday for me and my 2 daughters in their early 20s. Theyre not really into outdoorsy type things but they do like looking round shops, museums, cafes and seeing shows. I live in Suffolk and don't own a car due to medical reasons so anywhere i go has to be by public transport. I don't mind a long journey within the UK. But i preferably dont want to have to go through London. I dont mind if its a city or coastal but it has to have things going on around it. Any ideas?

Edinburgh plenty of shops, museums and cafes. A castle as well and dungeons.

    Give Manchester some thought.
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.
  • Liverpool has fantastic museums, great theatres, and plenty of shopping - and all within an area more comapct than many cities. The people are friendly and there is plenty of choice of things to do.

It's easily accessible by train, but I don't know if you would have to go through London.

No experience of Edinburgh, but I'd agree with other posters that York, Liverpool and Manchester all fit the bill. The latter two are close enough together that you could split your time between the two, or have a day trip to one from the other.
  • What about Cardiff?

Musesums, wide range of theatres, excellent restaurants, lovely hotels (have a look at the exchange hotel in the bay) & a brillant shopping centre
