Can anyone help with scientific calculator

I'm afraid it's not exactly eBay related but anyhow, bought a scientific calculator (on eBay lol)

and I have never used one before. When you put in a figure and calculate a percentage such as VAT, if it's a whole number the answer appears correctly but if not it comes out as a fraction so:

75+20% comes out as 376 over 5.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

  • What does it do if you input 75 x 20% + =

Or can you press the fraction button again for it to show decimals?

  • I have a fraction button on mine that I press for fraction and again for decimal.

Alternatively have you got a MODE button?

What is the make/model, perhaps google can help.

Press Shift then Mode/Setup to access Setup.
Select 'MthIO' (option 1 on mine)
then Select 'Line0' (option 2 on mine)
You should now get decimal outputs.

Secondly, when you type "20%" it evaluates that as "20% of 1"
so 75+20% will come out as 75.2 which is not what you wanted.

To add 20% to the original price you should just multiply by 1.2

    75 x 1.2 = 90
  • That's amazing lammy82. It's also fixed my fx-83GT PLus. That's why I bought another one on the first place! lol Now I have two calculators.

You can get the answer in decimal form by pressing the S<>D button (just above DEL). Repeated presses switches between the formats.

You don't need a scientific calculator to do percentages though - any calculator can do the job (as lammy says, just times your price by 1.2).

Don't know if this will be of help, but you can download the manual direct from Casio at http://support.casio.com/pdf/004/fx-82ES_83ES.etc_Eng.pdf

Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

You might have three if you use Windows as that has a Scientific Calculator built in.
