Stainless can’t be used on a gravity system as the coil is to big and as the system is not pumped you can’t get the flow through it, I’ve learnt this the hard way.

If you have a new WB boiler recently then you will not have a gravity hot water system, it will most likely be fully pumped y or a plan system.

    *s plan, not a plan.

Just to be clear when we talk about gravity hot water, we’re talking about the heating system and how it heats your hot water. The pump doesn’t run when you select hot water only, the hot water from the boiler travels to the cyclinder by gravity, heat rises. The pump runs when you select heating. It’s a very old fashioned design, gravity hot water, pumped heating.

    Gotcha.
Well my system pumps the hot water, so I'll be looking for SS.
Screwfix have RMcylinders SS starting at £157.49 with 10 Yr Warranty.
Quote: "Part L compliant. Vented, with high efficiency foam insulation and 22mm compression connections and fittings. Suitable for use as a Grade 2 copper cylinder.
    • Stainless Steel Construction
    • 10 Year Manufacturer's Guarantee (T&Cs Apply)
    • Complies with Part L Building Regulations
    • Welded Joints Reduce Risk of Leaks
    • Standard BS Tapping Heights (Copper Equivalent)"
Any comment about the suitability of this possible choice would be greatly appreciated.

The hard bit might be to find a safe, reliable plumber....or do it myself?

One other thing for the techies; when I view the forums NOT logged-in I see the new style, when I login I see the old style.

New style is the default presentation to visitors and new members.

Members from before it was introduced have the option to view the (far superior) old green version.

So, when you are you, you see green, when you are a visitor, you see blue (or whatever it is).

Thanks to all for advice :T.

I have now had a TELFORD 10 yr warranty copper cylinder fitted by a reliable plumber. Took 3 hours.
Changed my mind about SS as I found a good local "Trade" supplier nearby who offered discount on the cylinder, free hard water (aggressive  water conditions) immersion heater (which I checked out the quality of), and their own brand version of X100.
Oh, and a free cup of tea :rotfl:.

Took a few more hours browsing the internet of things for me to spot the cylinder supplier, but sometimes you make your own luck and savings :j !

Oh! Then I got £50 for the old cylinder, UUUUNbelievable!
