Options for rendering kitchen extension

Looking to render and paint our new kitchen extension exterior, the builder recommended K-Rend as it offers more protection against weather and comes in a variety of colours (we want a medium grey).
I imagine it's quite an expensive product to purchase and apply though. Are there any other options out there or should we just do a standard sand and cement render and paint the exterior?
The extension — although small — has a contemporary / modern look so we'd want something that looks 'designed'. K-Rend looks good as it has a slight texture and a good colour... i'm just wondering what other products or methods are available.
Thanks

We have something similar to this on our exterior walls. Watch the video in the page to see how it is applied.

The finished texture will be down to the quality of the team doing the application. You could specify a smoothed trowel finish or the more common sponged finish - The latter will give you a sandy texture.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Do not go for sand and cement. If you do then expect cracking and ongoing maintenance with painting the walls.0
