Failed test purchase

I don't know if this is the correct place, so please mods move if I'm wrong!

I have been off work for 2 weeks holidays and came back to be informed while about to get on my checkout, that i shouldn't sign on as i had failed a test purchase on lottery, the day before i had gone on holiday :/ I was told that an internal investigation had to be conducted and to see my line manger. I was given small tasks to do, to keep busyish, and then put on a checkout which does not serve restricted goods, where i remained the rest of my shift. I have arrived home stressed and worried about my future with my employees, as to if i have one :( My husband while trying to help is just stressing me more, with demands that i gain CCTV of the incident, and ask for the time it happened. And how by going into a different part of the store i have put myself in the position of customs and practice, even thou i explained that they could move me for the needs of the business at anytime, regardless of what was happening! So stressed atm, i don't know what is going to happen and when :( i am with a union and in passing i mentioned i had failed a test purchase to the store union rep and he just went oh dear and walked off.....sigh....i just wish i knew what the procedure was so i could prepare myself for what's going to happen
i don't take being stressed very well, and have already had a week off work previously for stress :(

So, to date, nothing has happened? You are not suspended. You are in work. And being paid as such. So until something happens, there isn't a thing to do. Or to worry about. Sorry, but the bottom line is that your husband is wrong and the one winding you up! Go to work. See what happens. Worry about it when you have something to worry about.

Absolutely. They have to demonstrate that they are taking this error seriously - so you'll probably get a bit more training. I'm sure that it has happened to other folk so don;t worry untl there is something to worry about.

God I hate how utterly cack handed management can be about such things. The reaction is often "you did something wrong" not "we did something wrong." They talk about teamwork - what a joke. The team breaks down as soon as someone does something wrong and they get sooo heavy handed.

Honestly - it'll be nowt. You are in a union which is brilliant so you have some support.

Hard not to worry when your facing the possibility of having to find another job, while keeping up with the bills :( Have woken up shaking and with a banging headache, am panicking about going to work because I have to keep a brave face on and I don't know if I can :( Phoned Usdaw in the hope of at least knowing what was going to happen, and all they said is they would pass it on to someone else and they would contact me.

Where have they been heavy handed so far out of interest?

Employer seems to be acting perfectly reasonably to be fair.

Better they carry out test purchase and act and not trading standards or police

I appreciate that you may be worried, but their reaction so far suggests that there is nothing to worry about. If you take your husbands advice and tell them you refuse to be moved - then you will have something to worry about! Because refusing a reasonable instruction is quite likely to be seen as gross misconduct.

The odds are that, at worst, you'll get a slapped wrist and retraining. Best case, just retraining. But blow this up I into something bigger and that will definitely not help you.
  • Was this an internal test purchase so by that I mean someone used as a test purchser by your company to check that you are indeed following procedures? or an external person so someone employed by or voluntering for Trading Standards the outcome could well differ for which.

I wasn't sure tbh. But ended up being internal (thank goodness) i was given an record of improvement, asked if there was any reason I hadn't asked, I said to me they looked old enough, otherwise I would have asked! I had to do my challenge 25 test, and now apparently every thing is back to normal, thou not sure if I have moved department. Still glad I have a job, that's the main thing! Thank you for all your replies!
