22 month old Hoover washing machine

I have a 9kg Hoover washing machine which has suddenly started vibrating violently when on a spin, I bought from Curry's without any additional protection. So the first time I contacted them they claimed there was nothing they had to do, however, I called again and my position was/is that there's no way a washing machine as new as this one shouldn't develop this fault so soon and I said surely it was sub-standard when I bought it.

Anyway a week or so later I got the attached letter, Hoover say Curry's are going way above and beyond, is that the case? Or should they helping me more? I'm suspicious that Curry's want to give me money towards a new machine, maybe they know something about this machine that I don't....

Yes they are going way beyond what they need to do at this point, because at this point they don't actually have to do anything.

It's down to you to prove the machine is inherently faulty and that it's not down to wear and tear or just one of those things.

If you want to fight it, then you need an independent engineers report to state the machine is faulty due to a fault at manufacture. The fact its faulty is not enough. The cost of this report can be claimed back from the retailer if in your favour and they agree with it.

They can also offer you a partial refund to reflect the use you have had from the machine, 50% perhaps, maybe more maybe less who knows.

It looks like they have jumped straight to this option without you having to do anything so it's now up to you to decide if it's worth the fight or not, there is no guarantee you will win.
  • Have you had anyone in to look at the machine yet?

As it's vibrating badly, there are a couple of obvious things that could be causing this.
The first and most likely one is that the main bearing on the drum has failed. If this is the case, you could possibly get this repaired but it might not be worth it financially.

Another thing to look at is the feet.
Make sure that these are still all solid and that one of them hasn't loosened up as a badly levelled machine can vibrate a lot especially when the drum is spinning fast.

Thanks everyone, I wondered if there was anything they were meant to do that I wasn't aware of sadly not. Looks like I'll need to fork out for a new machine. :(
