I have an Audi A1 on finance which I’m looking to voluntarily terminate the agreement and hand them back the car. I’ve had the car a few years and is generally in good condition, however it’s just been in for its MOT and the garage highlighted a rattle from the timing chain area which can be fairly costly to repair.
What if like to know is, when I hand the car back I’m guessing the finance company give it a good check over and bill accordingly for anything they don’t deem to be wear and tear? (Which a timing chain isn’t, Its 6 years old and done 68k miles) Will I fair better if I pay for the repair and then hand it back?
Many thanks,
Chloe

Is it on PCP or HP? If it is on PCP you can't VT until you've paid 50% of the new price INCLUDING THE BALLOON PAYMENT, not just 50% of the finance.
You will find the terms and conditions for what condition the car has to be in somewhere in the paperwork you got when you took out the finance or if you call them they'll send you it. I would though expect they want it back with no serious mechanical defects.0 -
PCP is a fools errand for used cars, should only be used for brand new and then if only very carefully considered.0

Id say a timing chain is wear and tear, it’s not something you can abuse.
However your numbers seem strange, not that you’ve given any but “several years” to me would be at least 3 years, most PCPs are only 3 or 4 years, how long is yours? And what are the numbers in terms of length, amount, balloon payment etc?
You do need to act quickly whatever you do, fixing a timing chain may be expensive, not fixing it could write the engine off.0 -
Timing chains are a weak point with the 1.4 & 1.2 TFSI it's why VAG have gone back to cam belts0

At the end of the agreement, if you want to just return the car, everything turns into a scam. You are being passed to a third party (BCA) who does everything to squeez as much money out of you as possible. Not a financial service, a SCAM.0

So you opened an account, and searched for an old thread to have a rant. Congrats...0 -
