Hi
I was with my friend the other day and she said that I could park in the space outside her flat door which belongs to a solicitor round the corner. She said if his car wasn’t there that he won’t be working. I left a note to say I was visiting her flat and left my mobile number. I knew that the car park spaces further along the lane had signs up but I had no idea that there was a sign for the space outside her flat, I wouldn’t have parked there if I had known. The sign is there but it is high up on the wall. We got back to the car 30 mins later and the owner was there and was angry. He told us off and then said sorry. Anyway he obviously took the photos and reported my car to CPM. He had only been there about 5 mins. He had called my Mobile a few mins before I arrived back but I didn’t receive the missed call until after. Anyways my friends husband popped in to see him this afternoon and said I had been in tears about it. I am not working due various health issues with my baby. He said that he felt guilty as soon as we got back and had apologised. He said that he can’t do anything about it now though. I have read the newbie thread but I can’t get my head round it. Please can anyone help with what I need to do from here? I cannot afford to pay this fine.

Ask someone else to read the NEWBIES thread with you. Can't re-write it here.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Am I right in thinking that the land owner should be able to contact CPM and say that someone in their office said I could park there. Surely he should be able to get the ticket cancelled? Also there is only one sign for all the spaces and it is over 7ft up the wall in tiny writing. No signs within the spaces that I parked.
He owns the land so there is no loss of revenue by me parking there that one time. I certainly won’t park there again. Also I didn’t get a ticket on the car only a letter through the post. They are only relying on his photos too.
Appreciate any help0 -
Bumping to get it noticed. Thanks0

Have you put your points to the solicitor and what did they say? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
My friends husband popped in there and explained that it was a mix up. The solicitor said he felt guilty as soon as we returned and apologised. He said there was nothing he could do though. I have his mobile number so was tempted to text him. Was just going to plead to him to cancel it. I just wanted to be sure that he can tell them to cancel the ticket. I have tried reading the newbie post but my baby never sleeps so I literally cannot get my head round it. Thanks so much0

If you can't get it cancelled and there is no point in appealing, then file the paperwork. You will get lots of threatening letters which can be used a cat litter but the paperwork you need to keep an eye out for is something from a court.
So nothing to do unless they bounce you into court (about 18 months or more from now if they do and they don't always)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
So I have done a little bit of research. On the British Parking Association website it explains that any signs need to be clearly visible upon entering the Car park, they also need to be at a level that a disabled person can see them from their vehicle. It also states that the signs have to be a lonm of 45cmx 45cm. Well the only sign is over 8ft up the wall and although it is over 45cm long it is narrower than the minimum set out by BPA. It is not clearly visible and I have difficulty making out the wording as it is so far up the wall. I am going to appeal but before I do I have a question. My 14 days to appeal runs out on Friday. If I send the appeal off first class recorded delivery does that mean they cannot bump the fine up to the £100 whilst the fine is being appealed? They will obviously refuse my appeal so I will request a POPLA code or whatever it is. Thanks0

If you’re talking about UK Car Park Management (UKCPM), they are not BPA AOS members and POPLA isn’t open to you. The BPA Code of Practice has no influence on a non-BPA AOS member. If it’s some other parking operator, please come back and give us their precise name.
If it is UKCPM, then please check out the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #1 and use the template (in black text) to send in the ‘lip service’ IPC operator initial appeal.
Continue then to read the sticky’s post #3 about why not to proceed any further to the second stage IAS appeal after a rejection of the initial appeal by an IPC operator. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

Rectangular logo is a "business" membership. Has NO meaning
ROUND logos tell you which AOS they belong to - round IPC? Then its the IPC CoP they should follow. I say "should" - the IPC doesnt bother to hold ANYONE to it.0
