Vaxhall corsa van

Options
Hi all first post!
Im looking into getting a car/van come april 18, it will mainly be at home mon-friday and used for fishing on weekends so im edging more towards the small van route.
Im thinking about a 2008-10 vaxhall corsa van 1.3 desil as there seems to be a few in my price rance 2-2.5k

Ive got a couple of questions i hope can be answered...

1, some people say get a desil some say noooo dont do it! Whats the score here?

2, are vaxhall a reliable car? Never owned one...

I will be getting a loan to get me and the mrs a car so whatever i get will need to hopefully last me the 5yrs its gonna take me to pay off the loan!

Basicly i just want something cheap and reliable, 60mpg ish and cheap tax

Thanks

    1. If it's a van it will be diesel (usually)
    2. I've had my Astra van for 17 years, despite it being a Vauxhall. In my experience just don't let a Vauxhall dealership near it when it needs work.

Are you sure you want a van? It will be harder & dearer to insure than a car.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

How much fishing stuff do you have? I'd have thought a car would do fine. Bear in mind the Corsa van is essentially just a Corsa with no back seats and the rear windows replaced by panels. But less common and likely more expensive to insure.
  • Well ive got 16yrs no claims so hopfully not too bad, ill have to run a quote

My main concerns are theres quite a few for sale and these new rules with diesels
  • Not a lot but it gets all muddy etc so just easy to throw it in the back of a van

What new rules with diesels? You mean the plans to stop them entering major cities? How many major cities do you enter when you go fishing?

That said I'd go for a suitably sized car rather than a van.
  • I have no idea what the new rules are haha
Some people have said about higher tax, others dont buy one earlier than 2006 as they trying to get them off the rd

If its just the city thing then yeah i dont go into them

I bought a Transit a couple of months ago. Neither hard no expensive to insure. Couple of hundred quid with direct line, for SDP and commuting (not business use as I have an office job).
