How to change a thermocouple (Belling range cooker)

I have tried with some wire woll, but it has made no difference.
What annoys me is that the job entails one but and that's it... With a nut you hold the thermocouple at one end, while the other end just plugs in. Really hardly rocket science. As long as the thermocouple is level with the ignition thing and is hit by the flame you are OK. Hardly worth £145...
In any case, I had asked a gas safe plumber who said had no idea how to take apart the cooker (or perhaps couldn't be bothered...).0 -

How much do you think it’s worth? You’ve tried and can’t do it so can’t be that simple. Your paying a skilled trade for there knowledge, experience and to verify it’s safe to use after the repair.
Gas is an expensive qualification to maintain, resits every 5yrs, re registration every year, specialist tools that most need re calibrating every year.
I’d still say it will be quicker and less hassle to let belling do it.0 -
No, I quite disagree. If Belling told me how to disassemble the cooker (so that I know how to re-assemble it) it would be a trivial job. Perhaps time consuming, but certainly trivial as there is really nothing to it. Instead I am being held at ransom and I am asked to shell out top $$ for a trivial job.
It doesn't require any skill, only a screwdriver (the screws are all the same) and a spanner to undo/redo the TC.
However it was (purposely?) assembled in such a way that it is hard to get under the hob.
Besides, it is the wok burner which I rarely use anyway, so in the end it could be classed as a vanity job.0 -

I have exactly the same problem with one of my ovens. My gas engineer ordered the part through Belling and now can't work out how to access it. He called Belling who haven't been able to help other than tell him to strip the whole cooker (top and sides) apart to see if he can get to it!!!
What's that all about?0
