Confused about PIP & ESA

Was wondering if anyone can shed some light onto this

For example we have a couple, where one person receives PIP and their partner claims Income Support plus disability payments plus Carers Allowance.
Would that couple be able to claim ESA or they cant as they already get Income Support?

You can't claim both, it's one or the other. For ESA fit/sick notes would be needed from the GP. Also if Universal Credit is in their area they would need to apply for that if changing from one to the other. Doing this they would lose those premiums because they're not paid with Universal Credit.

Sorry, but your post is not clear.

Are they living together as a couple already? Is one moving in with the other?

Is the Income Support a joint claim?

It would be helpful if you could tell us exactly what each person is claiming.

Hi yes the IS is a joint claim as there are disability premiums on it and they do already live together
I just wanted to clarify as I see quite a few messages on here about people claiming PIP and ESA but as I understood it before its either ESA or IS depending on a persons circumstances. Am I correct?

yes either ESA or IS, as i stated earlier you can't claim both. Also if they changed to ESA and universal credit is in their area then they would have to claim that. No premiums are paid on UC so they would lose those. You can check here to see if UC is in their area.
