Why? because they are virtually a monopoly, if they were owned by Micro$oft, they couldn't be more hated. They prevent other payment schemes from being used, they charge a fortune, and are interested in one thing and one thing only...profit.
Profit is not a bad thing, but they stifle all negativity about themselves and customer service, well customer dis-service would be more apt. Their feedback system is appalling.
Let me give you a couple of examples, say for instance you purchase a product off a seller. That seller only gives feedback if the purchaser gives feedback.
The seller takes ages to dispatch your goods. Now if this was a "real" and not virtual environment, you'd be screaming from the rooftops, saying oi, he's an awful retailer, takes ages to honour the contract or not all, but no, the seller has the power.
He can afford to take a single negative feedback in his turnover, but the minion can't. So the buyer rarely gives negative feedback , despite having fulfilled his part of the contract providing consideration, by paying for the goods.
Another example, buyer purchaser buys an item from Far East, just as you are about to do. Seller does a runner, sends no goods, takes all money out of Paypal account. buyer complains to Ebay, who reply not our problem, talk to paypal (subsidiary of ebay) who come back saying account empty, sorry we can't return any funds paid through paypal.
There is no reason why Paypal cannot hold funds until buyer is satisfied, however all they are interested in is their commission, which they take OUT before releasing funds.
Apart from cash/cheque there is no alternative to paypal without breaking ebay T&C. At least Google checkout could have provided an alternative until banned
Ooops became a bit of a rant there, but you get the gist. Avoid them if possible.0 -
How much money are we talking about here?
If it was serious cash, I would be on a flight to my supplier, at least before my first order. After that I would think about methods of payment.
