Intel integrated graphics vs old gpu card

Hi all

I am buying a new pc for my daughter and her school work + games like sims4. For the budget I have it is i5 with integrated graphics I think HD630. The pc does have a spare pcie slot so I wondered if I could install an old GeForce 9600GT and then would get better performance than the HD630. I reckon the card must be 8-10 yrs old now, it’s been a while since I dabbled in this stuff.

Many thanks

Matt

    i5 = good, integrated graphics = BOOO...

    The HD630 is probably better than the 9600GT.

    Go for a 1050ti.

    if you think the 630 is better i will stick with that until such point she decides to play more graphic intensive games and then decide. the 1050 is around £140, so too much at the moment.

    thanks

    Benchmark scores:-

    GeForce 9600 GS 518
    GeForce 9600 GT 731

    Intel HD 630 1196

    HD630 easily outperforms any of the 9600 series ;)

    Expect to have to fork out for a better graphics fairly soon, SIMS will lag quickly when installing a few addon packs.

    I know i have one thats mad on the SIMS..

    Skip the i5 and go for a Ryzen instead and a decent video card. You can built a better balanced Ryzen system for the money.

    Well.... I have a friends kid who plays SIMS fine on their i3 laptop.

    The "fancier" you want the graphics, the more power you need. But something like SIMS is hardly Crysis 3. Anything dual core or above and running around 2Ghz is fine.
