Earth connection for outdoor

face-t

Hi my situation is I need a outdoor light but my property have earth cable only in 1/3 of property not on a side of the building I need to run cables to and concealed.
As A rule where can I get connected?
I have radiators, or consumer unit not that far and it is having earth wires connected to it. Is connection of only separate earth cable to CU considered as new circuit?
I need to run separate earth to light fixtures [2 of them connected to PIR], so 4mm² as minimum?
Spending several grand on rewiring is not an option for several years.
Thanks

If you have double insulated outdoor lights an earth is not required.0 -
If you need to ask, you should not be doing it.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

I have a lamp, it requires earth. Both actually.
EDIT: I think regulations are requiring now that new fixtures have earth available - even if unusedIf you need to ask, you should not be doing it.0 -
Erm... Where are you taking power from for this outside light ?
If it is from an existing circuit, then there should be an earth wire there already. If not, you will need to run a new circuit from your consumer unit compliant with current regulations.
Earthing to a radiator is not an appropriate method. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
all readily available connection points don't have earth available. Only part of the house was rewired only due to new boiler [my guess]
If after stripping more fixtures at home and checking for earth availability I won't find it - I'm thinking of connecting to CU's earth as it is only 1m away...0 -

Not true. All points in the wiring must have a CPC terminated at them even if Class II accessories are present.{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}0 -

If the consumer unit is only 1mtr away how hard would it be to run a new cable including an earth?? No reason you can't use mains board earth point.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -

In all fairness to what I'm trying to do I do not want to create new circuit from CU that is a bit dated and I don't know what will I find inside when I strip the cover. AT the same time earth connections are outside and will be easy to attach to.
I don't want to just create any EXTRA unsafe situation taking shortcut to CU earth [through a wall] [as borrowed neutral for example] or at least I' like to be aware of such, hence I'm here0 -
I get the impression you have no idea what your talking about, your electrics sound dangerous and should be checked by a professional.0

Cottage I owned some 10 years ago had the earth cable connected to an exterior earthing rod hammered into the ground. Our power supply was and still is supplied by overhead cable. Not sure if this would be acceptable for your purpose but may be worth finding out.0
