Help me buy a greenhouse please 😊
Options
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a small greenhouse to start growing my own fruit and veg (i have 2 dogs who like to eat plants and a huge slug problem)
The space I have available is quite small, probably looking at a 3x6 with the door on the long side. Im not a fan of the plastic covered ones.
Has anyone got a greenhouse similar that they would recommend? I'm hoping that buying at this time of year means I can pick one up at a good price.
Back garden is south-ish facing so gets a decent amount of sunlight. Not sure if thats relevant.
Thank you

3 x 6 what?
We're often metric these days, but somehow I don't think you mean 3m x 6m. Now, that would be a nice size!
3' x 6' is really small for a greenhouse, but I looked and came up with this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3x6-Wooden-Polycarbonate-Garden-Greenhouse-Sturdy-Timber-Wood-Opening-Roof-Vent-/152282542394
The above is not any kind of recommendation, just an indication of what might meet your description.
Personally, I'd not go for anything so small, but if I had only that amount of space and money to burn, I'd go for a lean to that I didn't need to step inside:
http://www.garden-products.co.uk/catalogue/browse/mini-greenhouses
Any of these structures in a south facing plot might become very hot without great care with shading and ventilation.
....and they are all waaay too expensive, brand new. I could make something that would do the same job for under £50, but .....
Earlier this year I picked up a (8' x 8') greenhouse in good condition for nothing. It was on Freecycle. You could do that too. There are dozens of them out there, sitting unloved and empty.
With the money I saved, I'd buy a fence, keep the dogs in their place and tackle the slugs with nematodes.:)0 -
Go for the biggest one you can squeeze in. No matter what size you buy, you'll think - 'hmm if only I had just a bit more room....'0

A second for that. Mine is metal framed, takes a bit of DIY work but nothing beyond the average common sense and the ability to follow instructions
Mine is like this http://norfolk-greenhouses.co.uk/ultimate-greenhouse-green-1-2m-4x6ft/. Had it over 15 years and still OK, it is fairly sheltered though, but withstood random fire from a neighbour's air rifle
Don't forget to factor in a base, for stability and also to stop whatever you buy shifting in a strong winds.
I used concrete blocks and screwed through, rust proof screws ans plastic plugsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I have the same one Faraway, and for the same length of time!0

I agree with silvertabby - if you can fit bigger do so. But veg., yes, but fruit!??
I got mine from Tesco -

Do you realise these are old threads that you're posting on? I'm not sure need to bump up every dead greenhouse thread.
EDIT: I've just realised it's SPAM. Have reported.0
