"These people are typical Londoners who come down to get away from London, and think money can buy whatever they want."
Ouch. Not a lazy, stereotypical comment at all...."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0 -
Errrr...yes...it would be wisest not to make that sort of comment to anyone else.....
....it does not go down well/show "the other party" up as objective/rational/etc when applied to someone moving into the area from another part of the country by the person that is already living there.....
Stick strictly to facts/laws/anything that is objective. Subjective personal comments are very easy to demolish as irrational. "That's the way it's always been done" is not a valid logical argument.
Stick strictly to what the paperwork says is the case - ie what the wording is about the ROW.0 -
OP, I will tell you what really is sickening.
Prejudiced people like you, making ridiculous, ill-educated remarks like that.0 -
I think the point is clear now to OP that the language about Londoners is inappropriate.
I have been on the receiving end of similar - having moved from one part of the country to another - and so I do know how the other person will feel about any comments along those lines if they get them reported back to them. My instant reaction was "C'mon - you've only got to take one quick look at me to know just how inappropriate those sort of remarks are". They were duly given very short shrift.........as I wanted to know what the "objective legal facts" were...and blow the "We've always done......." comments....
But - taking out the emotive language and checking the "objective legal facts" is still the way to go.0 -

If you met them and witnessed their actions, perhaps you would see my point.0 -
Errrrm......many years back I was told (by a Union official in the course of a dispute) that "We (ie the Union) have to be seen to be 'whiter than white' in this" (ie absolutely in the right and not putting a foot wrong).
The point applies...0 -
A couple of 'Yahoo' LondonersThese people are typical Londoners who come down to get away from London, and think money can buy whatever they want.Lord_Percy wrote: »If you met them and witnessed their actions, perhaps you would see my point.
I live in London and have nice neighbours, who are not known for their vulgar displays of wealth and power.
However I met this country gent once, called himself Lord such n such, he seemed to be a right tool, and quite xenophobic with it.0 -

Did I personally insult you? No but you did me just there.:)
Have edited the Londoners bit out.
Ok I said the wrong thing, but perhaps if you read the original post, you just may see the slightly more pressing issue of the pain this poor woman is being put though, rather than turning this into a 'lets all jump on a remark with a hilariously witty cliched reply' rather than addressing the actual issue? Or perhaps you have nothing to add to that? Otherwise feel free to go away0 -
If you provide some more details of the dispute(s), people might be able to provide some specific advice:
For example:Lord_Percy wrote: »I can assure you she has done nothing wrong other than get yelled at for not cutting a hedge
Leaving aside the "yelled" bit - what was the neighbour's complaint? Was it that your friend's hedge was encroaching on the neighbour's property?Lord_Percy wrote: »It has a covenant applied to it to allow the other houses access.
What does the covenant say? What aspect of the covenant is being disputed? Are the neighbours saying that no covenant exists? Or that your friend is doing something that is not allowed by the covenant?Lord_Percy wrote: »...picking on her for the slightest fault
What faults were these? Does your friend dispute that she was at fault?
Or are you asking a more general question along the lines of "If you believe that you are being harassed by your neighbour, what options are available to you?"0 -
Thank you for removing the part about Londoners.
Your friend is indeed being badly treated. I lived in London for nearly all my life, my family are friends are mostly from London. Never once have I ever known anyone act as outrageously as these neighbours are doing to your friend. It's nothing to do with Londoners, it's to to with these individuals being horrid.
Anyway, I think the point has been made.
Would suggest your friend speak to the Police if she feels she is being bullied. It's not right she is being made to feel like that.
What other things have been done or said to her?
Just because they are planning to remove this covenant, doesn't mean they can.0
