I would suggest you avoid having him as your lodger

firstly your not sure and if the relationship break down it will be come awkward

and your blurring the lines and he can show he paid and contributed to the house and you would find a great difficulty in proving he was just a lodger

How stable is the relationship? It's odd that at 8 months you have doubts.

Within 3 months of meeting my "girlfriend" she had moved in. 6 months later we were engaged, 18 months later we were married and have been now for 22 years.

If you see a long term future, buy a property jointly now.
    Ridiculous!

Quite apart from the time-gap and changing attitudes of society, you can't judge one relationship by another.

They are all individual (as are the people involved), and develop at their own rate.

Every individual's level of confidence in the strength and permenance a relationship will grow at a different speed.

Your own relationship's timeframe adds nothing to the OPs dilemma.

It's like when we see a poster asking how much notice he needs to serve his landlord and someone replies "I gave 1 week and the landlord was fine with that." That only helps if it's the same property. And the same landlord. And he's in the same mood. And the LL's circumstances are the same......

When I saw the thread title, I thought that the OP wanted her lodger to be her boyfriend not vice versa
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I'm sure that kind of situation has happened many, many times through the course of lodging house history. ;)
