Might see if I can do the same then Badrick. Was it easy enough to do?

Alas, only easy if you took a backup ( I use AOMEI Backupper) plus KLS Mail Backup for emails + ff bookmarks.
If you're able and want to get back to v56, try disconnecting your internet prior to reverting back, then disable update options in Firefox (it's what I had to do after it updated again straight after 1st rollback  ).

What about a firefox-based browser like Comodo IceDragon?

Thanks Painkiller, I'm going to look at giving IceDragon a try, as like lynwestie, my Firefox had also been occasionally freezing up for a few months now.

My Mozilla updated all by itself on my netbook just after I had finished doing my comp entries on my work break on Friday. My screen layout, tabs etc were all messed up and I could then no longer access my hotmail account - I was really p***ed off but didn't have time to do anything about it as I had to get back to work.

I haven't used it to comp since but I am dreading when I use it again next week (I use my macbook at home) after reading all your comments.

So frustrating - why do they have to change it and mess it up for everyone and not give us a choice?!

I've turned off automatic updates because in the past I've found roboform isn't compatible with them - is anyone using it successfully with the new version?

Oh my days, that sounds way beyond my capabilities Badrick

If anyone manages to find something to replace my referrer control on the new version please shout. If not I will look through & see what peeps are recommending to use on Chrone

I'm using Smart Referer https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/smart-referer/. It's not quite as customisable but it seems fine for comping.

Ok managed to turn it back & set it to ask me before it updates

Spoke too soon! It's gone back to Quantum again! No idea what I did or didn't do properly. Give up tonight I think.

It could be dangerous to disable updates as you would no longer get any security patches. If you can't use 57 then you could download the Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release). ESR is staying with version 52 (but with security updates) so old addons will continue to work until July 2018 when it will update to version ESR 59 and stay on that for about a year. However ESR 52 will be significantly slower than 57 (Quantum).

The newest version of Roboform (Roboform 8) is compatible with Firefox 57. If you are on Roboform 7 you should probably check this out before updating it: https://help.roboform.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005752328-Upgrading-from-RoboForm-V7-to-V8. Also, Roboform 8 puts the Roboform toolbar at the bottom of the browser rather than the top, which takes a bit of getting used to!

Here is some info about the Quantum migration and how to set certain things to look like the previous version : https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/wiki/quantum_migration
Here's a Google Doc listing old addons with WebExtension alternatives : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TFcEXMcKrwoIAECIVyBU0GPoSmRqZ7A0VBvqeKYVSww/

    And a couple of articles:
