Facebook Marketplace sale

Hi there, I really hope someone can help!

I have just sold an item of clothing on Facebook Marketplace and when the buyer came to collect and pay, they tried to get me to knock the price down, which I refused as it was already much cheaper than it should have been, as I wanted rid.

They kept saying 'it's too big but we'll put it back and our son will fit into it next year' and they paid for it without any coercion from me!

Cut to a couple of hours later and they are now saying it's too big and they want their money back, however I have spent this money and don't have it to give back!

Where do I stand with this? They knew it was too big when they purchased it, and even measured it up against their son and it was clearly too big, which even I could see and said to them 'it's a shame it's too big! But I physically don't have the money to give back.

Please help me, any advice appreciated!
Many Thanks,
Lauren.

The obvious answer is to ignore them. However, I know nothing about FB Marketplace, do they have a dispute function that could return the money to the buyer (like ebay/Paypal)?

Just ignore them, it was a private sale so they have no rights to a refund

  • Hi,

I listed this on FB marketplace and also on local buy and sell pages.
  • Hi,

I can't seem to find anything about this, I looked and there doesn't seem to be any sort of refund guarantee,I was hoping someone here would have a definitive answer!

It was a cash sale and they had the opportunity to inspect it, which they did. No rights to a refund for changing their mind.

Either ignore them, or agree to them returning it at YOUR convenience.

    Personally I'd ignore them.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Ignore, ignore, and then ignore some more.

I don't know what it is with people these days, so wrapped in cotton wool, they believe they are not accountable for their own actions . .
