Like this I suppose. In other words free to the end-user...The Quad9 service is free, but it does need to be continually funded. GCA is a non-profit—so the long-term growth of the service is based largely on government and industry continuing to fund it. GCA itself was funded initially with $25 million in criminal asset forfeiture directed to the organization by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.

Having read all that - https://connectsafe.norton.com/ - might be a better bet if Quad9 smacks too much of Big Brother.

+1 for Norton.
You could also take a look at Comodo DNS or Open DNS, although any of the three could reduce your browser speed (or increase it) depending on how close you are to their servers.
Try them all - they're free. For a quick and easy way to switch DNS settings try Dns Jumper.
Or alternatively you could try uBlock Origin adblocker and replace your existing hosts file with a modified one such as MPVS Hosts File which will give excellent protection against unwanted/dodgy connections. And it's quick.0 -
Quad9 is a great idea, but until it stops thinking halifax-online.co.uk is a bad site and not resolving it, then it might be a little awkward for some.0

I've just tried that experiment with other websites and they all work even missing the www off the front. Strange one.Never trust a financial institution.

Is it a case that it blocks sites they do not want you to visit rather than sites that are harmful to your computer/security?
