If I set up a DD of X amount per month, and I pay an additional one off payment as there is an option to do .why isn’t that X amount taken.
How do I get around it so the one off payment and the X amount is deducted

Some cards don't take the DD if a manual payment of the minimum or more is made. Some do.

Since yours doesn't, you need to make the manual payment after the DD has been called for.

zx81. How do you determine when the DD has been called for? If it’s the 1st of the month, do I make the one off payment on the 30/31 st of the previous month or further back or the day after the DD it due. TIA

The 1st or later would be fine. You could actually do it before, as DD are called for a few days before pulling the funds, but may as well play it safe.
