Credit card dispute

in Credit cards
Don't want to bore anyone, so this is the bare bones of it.
A company has stolen 5K from me, they offered to take back the caravan I bought from them and sell it on my behalf as it was just outside their warranty, an inherent mould problem was making me ill.
They took it back at the end of August.
They sold it and kept the money.
Whilst the police say this is civil, the solicitor says it criminal.
I paid them nearly 3K on my credit card and the rest in cash, what are the chances of getting anything back from my credit card company.

Have they said they aren't going to pay you or have they just not paid you yet?

There has been no response to phone calls and letters.
I visited the company and my van isn't there. When did they sell the caravan?
Nobody will tell me anything, everyone is very tight lipped.0 -

You won't get anywhere with the credit card because the dispute is not from purchase.
I think that at the moment it is a civil matter in that you have voluntarily given the company the caravan to sell. It becomes criminal if they do not pay you.
You could just hang around the entrance to the place with a placard to embarrass them into paying you. I would be wary of accepting a cheque in case it bounces.0 -

Thanks for you response ejones999, I bought the van off the people who took it back to sell.0 -

Thats two completely separate transactions though, the credit card has nothing to do with the latter one where they took it back to sell it on your behalf.
You may have had a case to get money back from your credit card company if as it sounds the caravan wasnt fit for the purpose intended, but as you no longer have the caravan to prove this would be virtually impossible0 -
Thank you jamalfatty,
That is what I wanted to know.
I thought it would be a useless exercise.0
