Word and narrator in Windows 10?

Can someone please tell me how to get narrator in windows 10 to read from Word?
It'll read the window title, doc title and other pointless garbage, but not the actual body of the text in Word (which is the point of having it, isn't it?).
It'll read a couple of hundred words from notepad and then stop!
Thanks.

Narrator isn't designed to work with Word - officially anyway.
However check this post out:

Have Microsoft Word to Read Word Documents to You
If you have .doc, .docx, or .txt files that you want your computer to read to you instead, you can do that right in Microsoft Word.

Thanks, but I've tried that and I don't have the 'Speak' option under the 'All Commands' listing?0 -
Which version of Word do you have? The Speak option is present in Word 2016, so if it's not in your version you may need to update to a newer one.0

Running Word from Office 2007. But I'm not trying to get Word to read the text, I'm trying to get narrator to read it?? Isn't the point of narrator that it'll read from any Windows program??0 -
Narrator is designed primarily for programs that come with Windows, of which Word is not one.
Try what's mentioned in this YouTube video:

Have a look at https://www.spectronics.com.au/article/ms-word-add-ins-to-engage-and-support-all-students there are a few programs to enable text-to-speech, I personally use FX Toolbar but it's Word 2007 only.0

I've given up and upgraded to Office 2016, more problems now...0
