Our local steam railway had a volunteers weekend last year. They opened the doors, and let potential volunteers meet existing people. They made it interesting and hands-on.
The other local steam railway had an open weekend, but there were no existing volunteers to talk with - just empty workshops and a traipse around.
The first picked up over 50 volunteers. The other, not nearly as much.
Just an extra thought - hospital radio would be a good project for duke of edinburgh gold scheme people? Could you target them?0
