Post office/ special delivery

I paid for special delivery for a high value item to be certain it arrived. I went to check the trace and track and realised I didn’t have the barcode. I checked everywhere and am convinced I didnt get it rather than I lost of it. I rang the post office and she said there was nothing she could do she gave me the ticket and there is no way of tracing. I am sure she can trace it as should should have a record that it was collected, the time , post code etc. I am I right or wrong. There is cctv in the shop and the delivery has not been received which raises me suscpions. I can’t do anything without proof, but am increasing concerned as I would have lost a lot of money. I had a lost parcel from the same post office before but no proof. Would be really grateful for some advice please.

This comes up quite often on here where people have lost the receipt with their tracking number and so far it has always come back as not possible for them to retrieve the tracking number. The problem is that the PO only take the parcels in, they then pass them on to Royal Mail for delivery so would have no need or reason to keep a record of the tracking details once it has been collected from them.

IIRC this is a question asked regularly and Post Office Counters do not keep records of your transactions with Royal Mail (which is a different company). The onus is on you to keep your receipt and proof of posting in order to trace delivery and in event of any claims.
