TNT invoice for import duties 10 month late

Has anyone experienced this with TNT before?
I received an item delivered I'm guessing by TNT but as this was back in February I can't remember. However today in November they send me an invoice chasing for import duty/vat paid by TNT or clearance charges or both.
Why they are invoicing 10 months after delivery is mind boggling and I'm wondering how to complain, whether to ignore, whether to challenge the fact they are seemingly asking for £20 admin for "processing" this fee.
Is there a period within which a company can raise an invoice?
Suggestions welcome!

Thanks. So they are just very behind on their paperwork. Amazing.0

Maybe they have sent one before but it got lost in the post, as far as they would know you’ve had it and ignored it.0

Nope. This is the first invoice. No suggestion of it being a reminder or a statement on account for an unpaid invoice etc. It isn't worded like one of those TVlicensing threatening letters.
And I'm a residential customer here, but who in the business world invoices 10 months late?0 -

TNT , it seems
seriously though, are you sure its not a scam email or was it a letter0 -
Earlier in the year all TNT systems went down due to hacking and they lost a lot of data - this is the reason the invoices are very late.
I import with them a lot, and over the last week have had several from months ago.0 -
I'd contact them and ask if they could "remind" me what it's for because of the delay.
If it's legitimate (which you seem to think it is) then just pay it. You could also complain to them pointing out the delay and who knows, they might write it off for goodwill.
I doubt that they will, but if you don't ask...0 -

Public sector organisations. We have had to chase both our local council and the university for invoices that they hadn't issued over 6 months after they should have.
Cashflow it seems is not an issue in public-sector land.
Unless you pay your council tax a few days late. then it is, at least with our council0
