Ryanair seat changing

Hi,
Having a strange experience with Ryanair. I have been trying to move our family seats to be nearer another family on a return trip.
There is the option under manage my booking to do this and as my family package includes seats there is no cost.
On my first attempts the system seemed to work OK and we moved but then seemed to move us back again later!
I went onto online chat (which was not a great experience, they are obviously skim reading across many windows at once) eventually I got them to concentrate long enough to move my outgoing seats as required but they were adamant I couldn't have the ones I wanted on the return flight and put me somewhere else.
Now these return seats were freely available, I had tried an identical dummy booking earlier and I could choose them freely (abandoned dummy booking of course so not taken)
So roll on a few days, running same dummy booking shows seats still free, I went through a move on manage my booking, my itinerary shows the new seats. Come back later and.. its moved me back to my old seats again!
Anyone had this before? why is it not working? they are not special seats, just cheap regular ones near the back.
Bit reluctant to try customer services again as it was not pleasant!

I'm not sure with the "family free-seating" policy you can pick and choose where you want to sit. I thought it was free, but they allocate them to you.
Guess you could always pay if you would like particular seats.0 -
You don't get all the seats free. One adult has to pay half price, and then they can have up to 4 children under 12 seated with them for free. Anyone on the booking over 12 has to pay the normal seat price if they also want to select seats.0

When I initially made the booking (2 adults and 2 teens) I was free to select any regular seats for free with the family plus deal (apart from the special extra money ones)
The other family with two children were able to pick their free seats but only from the cheaper rear most ones, as you say paying for one adult and the kids free.
That is how we got split up... as we booked first picking seats up front, then they booked and were made to go to the back, now I am trying to move to the back but it won't let me!
(I chose the family+ extra that includes allocated seats, priority and luggage all in so all seats are paid for.)0 -
just tried again, it let me move fine, showed on my itinerary new seats, until I logged out and back in, checked itinerary and its showing the old seats again...:mad::mad:
Give up.
Perhaps you guys can answer another question please?
On other airlines after you book you can go in and give your advance passenger information (passport number etc) but I can't see any of that on Ryanair!
I am guessing its part of the actual check-in process when that is open? nothing to do in advance..0
