CC App. Proof of ID

Firstly hello to all you seasoned MSE users out there!!

I recently applied for a Capital One classic card and in due course received a letter asking for proof of ID, it had 2 lists on the reverse and they require an item for each, i have a recent bank statement so the second section isn't a problem...however from the first they require either:

National insurance document from a government department (not NI card)

HMRC - Any letter of documentation except p60/p45

Local council tenancy agreement

Letter of notification from a central government benefits agency or pension service

Student grant/loan letter from the LEA

Evidence of entitlement to Housing/Council tax benefits

and I'm struggling with the above

does anyone know how to obtain any letters/docs from the above that would be acceptable?

the deadline is 3 weeks although I'm sure they would be a little more lenient due to postal strikes

many thanks

  • You can ask Inland Revenue for a copy of your tax coding for this tax year.
Normally takes around 10 days though.

This won't help with your current problem (although the person above has made a good suggestion so its probably already solved) but... when credit card companies ask to see proof of ID its mostly (not always) because you're not listed on the electoral roll at your address.

If you're not already listed on the electoral roll then it's probably worth getting added so that there's less chance you'll have to do this next time you apply for any cards/loans etc.
  • Thanks for the responses!!

I contacted the inland revenue this morning but their systems are down over the weekend for an upgrade - looks like i'll have to wait until monday.

As far as the electoral register goes i've got the form to send off but havent got round to it
