PLEASE READ: RE: Competition Scam

My nan got this/a simula call last Friday. She is barred from calling Premium rate numbers for Competition or catalog services because she isn't all with us now and isn't very money savvy. Luckly my dad was up there with her as she didn't understand that the call was a recorded message being played to her and kept trying to interrup the ask what he was on about.
My question is: If she had pressed 9, with her outbound premium rate numbers being barred, would it had dialed the number (and charged he)?I remember when this was just a little website! :money:0 -

Please read the previous posts. By pressing the "9" key you cannot turn an incoming call into an outgoing call. This is all part of this "£20 a minute" urban myth which is doing the rounds. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
Please read BFG's post again ... especially this bitPlease, please don't fall for this scam, as I know a friend of a friend of a bloke down the pub's window cleaner's sister who forwarded it and they have had to sell their house and children to pay the bill and they are inside for 6 months.
You have been warned.
And this bit, including the linkThe moral of the story is to check out https://www.snopes.com before blindly forwarding 'scams'.

You can on some company phone systems, but this is the glimmer of partial truth needed to start an urban myth. On the automated message dialers it will simply transfer the call to another 'tape' or a salesperson, similar to 'press 1 to pay, 2 to query etc' systems, but still at the caller's expense (not yours).trisontana wrote:Please read the previous posts. And to echo other posters - these people are intruding on your privacy and attempting to scam some cash from you by flogging something dodgy. Join the TPS and put the phone down on offshore callers.0 -
Previous poster mentioned joining TPS which I find marvellous (doesn't stop these US companies though).
If you have been reading other threads on this site you will see that BT have a Privacy at home not only do you get TPS registration but free Caller Display (if not part of privacy at home package costs £1.75 per month).
See thread for more info BT Abolish Caller Display charge
