Can't switch supplier!
So after receiving numerous helpful emails from MSE i decided to switch energy supplier to save myself around £350 per year, I chose OVO as this was the best deal, after waiting around 2 weeks i had still not heard anything so contacted them to be told i had failed a credit check and i could not switch!! WTAF i have a few outstanding catalogue bills but not behind with any energy payments of anything. I then tried to switch to M&S who said i had failed credit check but i can switch if i pay a deposit!! I tried going back to Sainsburys (part of BG who I am stuck with) and they have also asked for a deposit of £125 for Electric and £90 for gas. Has anybody else had this where you try and swap to save money but because of credit check i now have to stay with the most expensive supplier??

... but i can switch if i pay a deposit!!...
So which is it?
Yes there are many people who would like credit and can't get it. Some people, like you, are allowed credit if they pay an up-front security deposit.
Deposits are returned after 12 months with interest. (assuming you keep up with your bills)
Good luck!0 -
when i find a spare £215 down back of sofa i will gladly pay the deposit, Sainsburys are a sister company to BG so they want me to pay a deposit to stay with them! My BG bill even suggest i switch to Sainsburys Energy to save money but they want me to pay to do it!0

If you owe money to catalogues or anyone else you are more of a risk to suppliers so they will take precautions either by declining or asking for a deposit as you have found.
Have you checked your credit report so you know a. if it is accurate and b. so you can plan to improve it?0 -
Hi, the catalogues have a balance but have no missed payments, i also have 4 credit cards all within balance and no missed payments. I check credit report monthly and my score is rising every month. I could understand if i was trying to order an expensive tv or furniture but to be refused an energy switch is outrageous in my opinion!0

Try EDF, they’re not too choosy.0
