Beware, Virgin Media customers!

I received an email this morning, claiming to be from Virgin Media and informing me of a problem with my direct debit. Luckily I had checked the link in the email and it does not take you to Virgin Media. Also the email contained my email address after "Dear ..." instead of my name.
I contacted VM on the phone to inform them about the email and they have had a lot of calls about the very same email. What made it much more convincing for me, is the fact I received the email close to my direct debit date.
Be careful out there folks. If you're not sure about links in an email, right-click the link and copy the address into the clipboard. Then open Notepad and paste the link there to view the address where the link actually wants to take you to.
For example the below link reads as https://www.google.com/. But if you do the above or hold your mouse over the link (without clicking on it), you should see https://www.google.co.uk/.

The pedant in me would say there is a profound difference between
