companies that DID offer to insure me after the floods

Options
I live in Hull, which was severly affected by the floods. Our house was surrounded by water but it didn't enter. We are now moving round the corner and origionally I found no company that would insure our new place for buildings and contents-some companies just said 'we don't insure Hull since the floods'!!!? I was quite freaked out as wothout buildings cover we couldn't get a mortgage.
It may be of help to others in this area that I finallly found 2 insurers only who would cover us-LLoyds and Norwich Union. The former had the better policy,
the latter was the cheaper.

Hope this helps someone.

  • Hi thanks for that. I am insured with the Norwich Union and to be honest haven't found them much good. I had to fight tooth and nail for them to pay out on a flooding claim and it was only with the threat of the ombudsman and the press that I believe they eventually caved in.

When the work has been completed, I will be changing to the LLoyds.

    Hope this helps.

Kayteebell have you contacted Lloyds? We had a similar experience to you with our insurance people (complaints, threat of ombudsman etc.) and I wanted to change insurers but when I rang Lloyds they were one of many insurers who said no outright as soon as they were told we'd been flooded so for the moment we are stuck with our insurers for the forseeable future! :(
