I said it was a generalisation, certainly the mechanics that I know (and I'm related to one as well) drive vehicles with pieces hanging off (or chucked in the boot) and held together with bodges. I'm sure that they attend to safety critical areas, as these will get them an endorsement if they get stopped, but anything else doesn't matter.
