I bought a 2012 Jaguar XF about 3 months ago. Lovely car, really happy with it.
BUT
When I first bought it, the weather was warm, as it's cooled down I started to use the heated seats. Both myself and my OH are convinced that when we first started to use them, there were three heating options - you could have heat in either the seat only, or the back only, or both the seat and the back. Then suddenly one day there seemed to be only two options - back only, or seat and back.
There is no longer an option for the seat only to heat up. I'm sure I would have noticed this the first time I used it if it had been like this to begin with - seat only is the option most people would choose most of the time, I would have thought. It's certainly what I would choose. In fact, I remember being pleasantly surprised that I could also have heat in the back of the seat.
It needed a service a couple of days ago, so I mentioned it, and they reported back that it's only wired for the two options that we currently have.
I've looked in the handbook, but it just explains how to get to the options screen on the dash, it doesn't specify what those options are.
So, are we both imagining things? Should there be three options?
I know it's a first world problem...

I’d perhaps ask on the Jaguar Owners Club forum as it is such a vehicle sepcific question?0

I don't have heated seats, but I'd certainly want the seat backrest heated as the default- I notice a cold back more than a cold posterior, most likely because there is less insulating fat on my back, so I'd therefore expect the options to be back only or back & seat if I could only pick 2 out of the 3 possibilities.
Perhaps it is right, but do as suggested and ask other owners.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Your lucky your not in a Merc they used to have a tendency for the heated seat to catch fire0

Pretty sure the XF has always been all or backrest only. Mine is a bit newer than yours but its just the two options.
#Edit#
Should also say i dont really find them that good. Certainly not as warm as on the BMW it replaced. The seat gets really toasty but the back not as much. Same with the cooling. Freezing cold butt and just a nice cool feeling on the back.0 -
Thanks, will ask on a Jag forum.
I find seat-and-back is too hot. But apparently not as hot as a Merc!!No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
