Advice on Student Loans

I’m looking for some advice on what to do as I have no idea!
I live in Scotland and took out a student loan in 2007 and 2008. These are Plan 1.
I currently earn over the threshold for repayments but it does not come off my wages. I have phoned the Student Loans Company on two occasions - November 2016 and June 2017. In November they said I should be paying it and they would send a notification. My employer did not receive one. I phoned again in June and they said they ‘forgot’ to send the notification and it would be done that day. Still no notification for my employer and I am still not making repayments.
I have applied for a mortgage on a new build which was accepted but doesn’t complete until January so don’t want to chase the SLC until this is done.
My question is what do I do? Do I just not pay? Do I contact again after my mortgage has completed? Will I receive a penalty for not making repayments if I’m over the threshold even though I have tried to sort this?
Thanks for you help!

They may be able to levy a penalty or they may be able to ask for immediate payment of the whole amount.
Can't say if they would accept you contacted and nothing happened.
it may be your responsibility to ensure the correct payments are made.0
