Catalogue claims

Hi. I don’t know if I am in the right area of the forum for this but here goes. I have just been informed that it may be possible to get insurance back from my elderly mothers mail order catalogue. I have power of attorney so would be claiming on her behalf.
Unfortunately I have no account details, the account was closed some years ago and the catalogue, Marshall Ward was incorporated into the Great Univeral Stores Group.
Can anyone tell me if there is any hope at all, who would we claim to as this is not a Bank and would the forms etc on here be useful to me as I would rather not use a firm with hi commissions
Thanks for your help :)

A claim firm can't do anything you (or your Mother) cannot do yourselves. Claim firms have no special investigatory powers and would rely solely on information you provide them with.

In the first instance, I'd contact GUS themselves and see if they can find any details of your Mother's account simply from her address details. Do be aware that your chances of advancing any complaint are severely hampered not only by your lack of documentation and account details etc but also by the passage of time. If the account was closed more than six years ago there is every possibility that there will no longer be any record of this finance. Finally, do you know for certain that your mother had any PPI?
