Packing my summer sandals away for the winter, having worn them without protective socks or tights, and wondering how I can remove or lessen the inevitable dark sweaty foot stains which mark the inner soles.

short answer - you can't - any thing that works is likely to damage the insole, but please if you try and succeed, please let us know!
Does it matter, as by definition your foot covers the stains when you are wearing them?
I always make sure that mine dry out properly. With some sandals you can try insoles or little foot covers (UK ights have a great selection) but of course that doesn't work for really strappy sandals.0
