Birds Eye - Mixed feelings

Well I was looking for something 'cod' that I could microwave. Looking around various online shopping sites most products seemed to be oven or grill or whatever.

I then ventured onto Birds-Eye's own site as I wanted to look at some other (unrelated, vegetable actually) items actually and while I was there I noted a page or two listing details of cooking methods for fish. I clicked microwave and was presented with a list of products.

From this page I then used their tool to add to my 'online basket' , note I did not add it directly from the supermarket I let the B.E site do it. I checked this worked as I tried to add something I knew the supermarket did not stock and naturally it said it could not.

The supermarket site only listed oven cook but given most usually are just a copy/paste thing that's understandable. I have seen on other products sometimes the supermarkets in general list one or two methods and when you examine a pack there are more.

The product was brought on the purpose of it being micro cookable, otherwise I would of chosen something else. As I say the links on the B.E site take you to it.

I used Birds-Eye's contact form although I was not able to get all the info in due to the character limit. The reply was polite and nice but they merely listed the oven cook methods and said they could not see the links.

It did not matter as at that stage I had a working email so I was able to reply in full "hand holding" steps, click this then click that and you'll see the Microwave section and click that and it shows you these products.

To be fair they said they would write to me, I did not want to complain :) All I wanted was either the micro cook instructions or to be told it was not and the site would be updated as it does directly erm "lead" you to those products.

Anyway letter arrived this morning with £5 of vouchers and a note saying the IT people would look at the site.

All well and good although I would of preferred no vouchers and just the micro instructions or the site updating to prevent confusion.

So I'm kind of half / half on this being both a vent and a praise.

Why not just buy some cod from the fishmonger and use a microwave recipe such as http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/delightful-cod-in-the-microwave-282299? It'll almost certainly be better than any Birds Eye product.

Oh there's no issue doing that (apart from finding a decent fishmonger within range!) , just that I went out of my way to find a B.E product that was micro cookable (Young's actually list a few things but I wanted B.E) then to find out it was not was a bit " :( " due to no oven for a couple of weeks, hence the "micro only search" :):) hence the "mixed feelings"

I did not want the vouchers although I half knew that kind of thing was going to happen, would of been happy if said page was amended and a "oops its not micro sorry , we have fixed that page and removed the 'non micro' from the micro listing page" , that would be plenty. :)

I don't understand ? Any fish product can be cooked in a microwave, even if it says oven cook. The only thing i can think of that wouldn't be suitable for microwave cooking would be something in breadcrumbs as they would be soggy cooked in a microwave.

:) The 'issue' was simply the site in question links you to products when you specify microwave cooking when not all products listed on that page do have micro cook instructions. Reason simply being no oven for a week or two.

I do realise you can more or less zap most things in a microwave, but I'd prefer manufacturers instructions if possible.

I'm not going to say "misleading" as that's not really fair to say but as I previously mentioned I went looking for "microwave cookable fish" , a different brand did have something but I wanted to stick to the brand I usually purchase. :)

Anyway I guess its all "water under the bridge" now although I've made a mental note to look at the site again in about a months time to see if there were any changes.

I think you're all missing the point :D

Birds Eye website had mistaken instructions / product recommendations, that's all. Hopefully now fixed and all is well.
