Can anyone help. I booked a holiday to Cuba back in January at Going Places with Thomas Cook for January 2008 I need to pay the balance end of this month and I've just discovered the same holiday on Thomas Cook Website for over £1000 less - what's the best thing to do: cancel lose the £375 deposit and rebook on the website or ask Going Places if they'll match the price??

Holiday prices change from day to day and week to week.
I don't see why you would expect the holiday company to reduce the price of your holiday that you booked in January.
Would you expect them to charge you more if the price went up after you booked it??? Errr no.
In this case, your best bet is to cancel and re-book, saving approx £600 (£1000 less deposit) on the original price. If they did offer to price match, £600 off is the most you would possibly get, as that is what you would save if you cancelled. You must check the Terms & Conditons of your booking - you might still be liable for more than your deposit at this stage.
However, I don't hold out much hope. Otherwise, everyone would phone up the tour operator when they saw their £500 holiday reduced to £99 on the day of departure and expect a £400 refund!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
You've got nothing to lose by asking. When you ask get them to confirm what you have to pay and when to cancel. May concentrate their minds a bit.0

I would just cancel and book the cheaper one.
i have done this before.travelover0 -
Aren't price match offers normally time-restricted too?0

As others have said. I wouldnt expect them to reduce it but you can only ask, and then ask if you cancel how much you owe.
If it is just deposit, I would book the other one and then cancel, not the other way round as you may find that you cancel and the other one has gone up.
Oh yes and do it today!!!!!!!0 -
There is no way Going Places will match the price! Travel agents simply don't earn enough to give you a £1000 pounds off! Not unless your booking is worth £10k anyway!
Have you costed it all the way through on Thomas Cook's site as they have a habit of adding a lot of extras on the final page?
