New Windows fitted but no building control sign off?

We had some new windows fitted to our house earlier this year. The window fitter we chose was based on word of mouth and recommended by quite a few family friends as his work is really good.

Unfortunately he isn't Fensa registered so he told me that when finished he would arrange for the council building control to come round and sign off his work.

Anyway the work was carried out to a really good standard and we are more than happy with it.

However, despite chasing he still hasn't had BC round to sign it off and Im starting to worry he has something to hide?

The window installation was finished in Feb 2017 so i have been chasing every couple of months since and had various excuses back like : He had forgot, he had just separated from his wife, etc etc.

Where do we go from here??

Thanks

BB

Contact building control directly. Get them to look.

If BC have any concerns and won't sign it off, contact trading standards.

The cost of the building control sign off was incorporated into the cost of the window fitting so we have already paid for it to happen.

So ask your building control, did he ever actually pay the fee to them and fill in the forms.

    If not, then trading standards.

I dont think he has to be honest as he keeps saying he will get them round to do it but it never materializes.

    It was a cash job.

I have all of the text saved to my phone showing the conversation between us. I really didnt want to go down the LBA route but due to the time and constant excuses I feel my hand is being forced.

Prob cheaper/easier to just get a simple indemnity policy when you move and not contact BR (or you can't get the policy).

I've done it, my vendor has done it and I expect others in our chain have done it (and I did it on my last 2 houses). Very common.

Appreciate you say you've paid for it - but how much do they charge for that then?

According to my local council website it is £170

Obviously your concern is not the quality of the fitting, so I wouldn't worry too much. FENSA cover isn't that great anyway and I expect it's very hard to claim under.

Unless you're planning on moving in the very near future I wouldn't worry too much, you can always take out indemnity at the time if necessary, it won't be very much and the further down the line, post installation you go the less it will cost.

I'd prob stick with the indemnity route. Likely to cost less.
