Expedia deals too good to be true but are

I have booked our winter holiday to Florida and I am somewhat bemused by the discounting on Expedia. I was wondering if it was a glitch or something?

I live in Cornwall, so flying is a pain as the cheapest big airports are a good drive away and then there is either public transport or parking costs on top and often a hotel.

BA and Virgin were offering flights from Newquay to Orlando using Flybe, change at Gatwick. All checked bags included to destination. £495. (Jan- Mar) Not too bad considering LGW to MCO was £425.

Expedia special fare for the same route £478. Nice. Cheaper than driving and parking and less hassle.

I worked through the process and when it came to the final page Expedia informed me that the cost of my flight had gone down to £403!

I did the same for other airports, but no discount. So I get the trip to MCO for less than the direct flight from London. Seemed rather odd. I checked it and I had everything included. I added a rental car. The price went down again. I booked naturally. So I ended up with cheaper flights and effectively a free car for 2 weeks compared to BA sale deal.

I am not sure if there was a computer price error and I will get an e-mail telling me they made a mistake, or it was a some sort of promotion. Either way I am happy right now.

They were still on Expedia, so if you are thinking about it. Go try it out, but work through to the payment page to see if it discounts.
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

  • Changing start airport to add an extra flight and invoking BA Holidays with the car can be excellent ways to reduce costs.

It's all about fare buckets apparently. But who cares if the cost is good?

When you add another travel component at the same time, such as a hotel, or car rental, the travel arrangements become a Flight+ arrangement (or a package). The costs can then appear to drop, or a cheap overall deal achieved, as often the Seller can access and use a different fare type which is specific to opaque holiday sales.

Glad you experimented and found a good deal to suit you.
