O/S Daily Tuesday 14th November 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, although he seems to have come down with the lurgy that's doing the rounds, so not sure he'll be fit enough to work all day, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dark and raining here, although not so cold.
Dinner last night was fish, chips, beans/veg - we used up the bag of defrosted frozen chips that DS1 brought back from his time away. Tonight I'm thinking egg, bacon, sausages, fried new potatoes and beans - there's sausages to use up too. Or I could go down the HM egg fried rice route again - we'll see what the menfolk prefer. Hairdresser came last night too so we're all nice and tidy.
Work wasn't as busy as a normal Monday but was steady, and again loads of awkward long enquiries We'll see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Belated birthday wishes to Holly, hope you had a great day.
Get well son RR.
Spent the whole day at work frozen yesterday until I took the netball, that heated me up somewhat! I'm going to wear long socks today to see if that helps.
Went to see the nurse at the surgery regarding holiday vaccinations, she identified what I needed but most have a worldwide shortage so can only get typhoid at the moment. I'll look into private clinics to see if they can get them.
Haircut after work today, not sure it really needs it but if I don't go it will soon get out of control.
How are you Meanmarie?
Have a good Tuesday, take care. XX0 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I'm dropping hubby at work soon and then coming back to clean a boat. I will try to finish one of the port hole bungs too.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone.
After a very early start I’m now onboard the Islay ferry waiting for the kitchen to open after we push off. Ferry is very quiet now that the season has finished. It’s a lovely ship with even a lift from the car deck, think I’ll be using it to go down as my dodgy knee hurts.
Breakfast will be a CalMac one.
Happy Tuesday to all.0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Cold and dark, no idea what kind of weather we are going to have. OH decided to scare me with Internet warnings of a very cold, snowy winter yesterday. Lovely to look at, less nice for me out and about on public transport. Still, if I wanted to use the car, I'd probably leave it at home in ice and snow so it is immaterial. Here, we tend not to have the coastal extremes of weather but I haven't forgotten 1980 when it did not thaw here for about 10 weeks.
Work now for the next 3 days, and once I've got through that, I have a 2 week break. Most of this is made up of time owed to me. I don't have particular plans for it.
Last night's dinner was meatballs in a sauce which varies each time I make it, this time it was onion, garlic and herbs and turned out well. We had roast potatoes and cabbage with it, I know cabbage is a bit mundane but I like it. DS also had a dish of carrot sticks, a banana and a dish of blueberries and a big piece of pineapple.
I'm not cooking now for a few days, OH can do that.
All my work clothes are shabby and my shoes are in dire need of replacement. I am going to be like Worzel Gummidge if I don't do something about this. Apart from the hair, mine is not all that Gummidge-like.
We are putting the heating on now but only from about lunchtime so am putting off having a shower. I must, in a minute. The water will warm me up but it is the getting out part that is horrid. I will bite the bullet though, and then I need several layers of clothes as it is very cold on the way to work, then the building has hot and cold spots. Many people work in summer clothes but I woukd be blue with cold before I got there so layers for me. Layers sounds quite posh, unfortunately my version of it involves aged cardigans, hat, gloves and scarves. So I arrive bearing a distinct resemblance to the Michelin woman, as opposed to my close friend at work who comes in wearing nice elegant clothes but then she does complain about freezing a lot. I'm cold even thinking about her.
Right, I cannot put this off any longer, so once more into the breach..........I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
Thank you all for your lovely birthday wishes yesterday. I had a nice lunch, and ate cake for breakfast, tea and supper. I did vey it though. I had Dorset apple cake for breakfast, fresh cream chocolate sponge roll in the afternoon and fresh cream Victoria sandwich for supper!
I am going to start trying to eat healthily again from today. As I’m still not feeling up to coping with much I have got some cod out of the freezer and will have that with some fresh veg. I will take a walk to the supermarket this morning and get some veg. It will be a quick easy meal to prepare.
When I get back I think that I really must at least dust and vacuum the sitting room and bedroom. If I get that done I will at least feel that I have achieved something productive today.
Hugs to everyone who is unwell or struggling at the moment.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's dark and damp looking outside but at least it's not as cold as yesterday is the best I can say!
A no cooking day for me, we are off on our usual Tuesday jaunt which will incorporate a late lunch. Probably Otley for the little market and a rummage in the numerous cs, whilst Mr TA gets his feet up with his paper and a coffee or two. Then we will meet up again for lunch, probably backtracking to Ilkley as usual. I am hoping to spot a few more pressies to cross off my list whilst out and about.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) to all wanting them. Hope you are feeling better today REDRUBY. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Thank you for the get well wishes I finally stopped being sick in the early hours of this morning but I still feel very wobbly and weak I suppose not eating will do that, im going to attempt some toast in a while, Im staying off today as I don't think im fit enough yet to go in, another day should see me right.
Wont be doing too much today in fact it can all wait till tomorrow, so another sofa day is on the cards.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all
I was given steroids by the doctor yesterday so I'm feeling energetic today which is just as well - the "to do" list is quite long. I need to drop the HT to school then call at Tesco for a few bits. Once I'm back home I need to make Mocha Squares for the HT (I'm back to making all snacks and goodies myself again thank goodness) and make a start on sorting this house out. The house is smaller than our last one and we filled it when we moved in. Since then a lot more things have moved in and very little has moved out so we're overflowing. I don't like it when everything feels out of place so it's time for a sort out. This afternoon I have my appointment at the leg ulcer clinic. They can't bandage me again yet so that should be interesting.
redruby I hope you continue to feel better. I'd be tempted to stay off tomorrow as well if I were you. Feeling better at home on the sofa is totally different to coping at work especially in a job like yours.
Hollyharvey your birthday meals sound perfect. The HT would totally approve. They're more or less the same as his birthday meals except that he had a slice of pizza before his cake at tea time.
camelot I'm not sure when you're going away but it might be worth calling the clinic run by the Liverpool school of Tropical Medicine. They have a clinic in Chester and I seem to think you have family there so you could maybe organise a stopover (sorry if I'm wrong).
Take care all of you0 -
I'm glad you feel a bit better RR and that you had a good day HH.
My careful meal planning went out the window on day 1. I'd planned salad because we both want to lose some weight before Christmas eating sets in but I forgot to get the salad leaves in Lidl. They do a bag of spinach, kale, beetroot and rocket which I can eat (most lettuce doesn't agree with me and bags of spinach go off before I finish them) and DH likes as well. I got something out of the freezer than DH rang, he'd missed his train, so I had to go to Biggleswade to pick him up (only 5 minutes away). He wanted to go to his gym class so I popped into Marks for a couple of ready meals because that was all we had time to cook!
Ziggypup looks very skinny now her fur has been shorn.
DS and DiL still haven't exchanged contracts on their house - fingers crossed it happens today, they still want to move on Friday. I hope so too because that's the best day for us to help them.0 -
Morning
Gers what a fantastic way to get to workno traffic jams there then. Enjoy your breakfast and the views
Redruby make the most of your day or two at home and get well soon
Mums birthday today which she shares with Prince CharlesI remember they always played the national anthem on radio 4 and she would say its for her
Will ring her this morning once I know she's up then over to see her tomorrow. I took a risk on her pressy and got her a big Paddington bear soft toy from M+S. Its a risk because shes never really been into soft toys but just lately she seems to be softening a lot by cuddling and chatting to my furry guide dog puppy I have in the carAnyway either way I win cos if she hates it Ill take him home and he is gorgeous. I have a cake for her too and some hand cream/body lotion I know she likes.
Last night had a hotch potch dinner of the Glamorgan sausages, red onion marmalade, spicy onions,2 pieces of use up bacon from the fridge and some beansvery random and very tasty
Today not sure but I think I will revert to yesterdays plan of some fish and chips.
Have a great day all :A0
