Need a courier who can collect heavy duty items

Long story short I put a low ball offer in for some commercial kitchen equpiment and the guy accepted it!

I wasn't expecting it and hadn't really researched collection couriers...

All I can find are couriers who deliver things for you rather than collect plus I need one who can deal with heavy equpiment, it's around 200kg worth of stuff including a large double sink and commercial dishwasher.

I'm beggining to think I'll have to rent a van and go myself:cool:

Are shiply ok? I read reviews from people on here about them and the majority were awful.

Shipley is really just a market place for you to offer a job and then for couriers, or man with a van to offer- it's as good as the person you opt to use, so it varies.

A couple of quick points to consider though- firstly how has seller stated they will make the item available for courier? (I'm assuming they have said this is OK to collect by courier, and it isn't just a collection only that you assume is OK for a courier). You'll need to know the proper weight, whether any of it is boxed or on pallets, and also make sure that you have enough people to securely and safely load. If this is just a case of stuff being there for collection that you will be limited as it is unlikely that a courier will collect without any packaging or labelling and without paid assistance for loading- and a van with a loading platform - so this may well limit your choices to a company with a suitable van and a two man crew at least.

Secondly, how large a collection window do you have? Is this available at any reasonable time or has seller specified a day and time for collection as that will limit you further as even a company with a van might have some time constraints.

Then insurances, if you are collecting, or arranging collection then you need to be fully insured as if this goes wrong, or anything is damaged all your seller is going to help with is the original cost- at best, and depending on how you pay even that is not guaranteed. You send someone to collect it and basically it's yours at that point, even if it falls off the van on the way home or is not loaded correctly and breaks on the way. So you could end up with the seller and courier arguing about when item was damaged, unless you have some sort of contract with courier to inspect before uploading, but that's likely to start getting very expensive.

Find a local man and a van and go with them, they'll probably work out cheaper than hiring your own and you get extra help.
    Some charities have them too.

To be honest as you do not know if it is on a pallet or the proper weight or size then I would either go yourself or use Shiply. There are plenty of vans that need a return load so it could work out cheaper.

All couriers would collect items for you, as long the seller puts a label on it. There are also plenty of websites that deal with pallets, some will even pallet it for you. But without know the exact weight and size, you will find it hard to get a quote.
