Think I posted in the wrong area before.
We are trying to get the house more secure and have just bought a Ring doorbell 2 and an indoor Ycam CCTV camera (both wireless and use wifi). The first worked for a week, the second is patchy.
Could our wifi be affecting them?
Download speeds of 13mps and uploads of 1mps which should be enough but is it possible the wifi is dropping in and out?
We have Sky internet, should we look at their superfast option? Or should we speak to Sky about the unreliability first? Any help welcome as I'm not that techy!

Get a wifi analyser app on your phone or tablet and see if you might be conflicting on any channels - either from your own or neighbouring wifis - that can royally screw-up transmission. Set channels manually if there are.0

Reliability (of WIFI) is nothing to do with Sky as it's down to your setup (excepting the unlikely issue of your router being broken).
As said above using a wifi analyser to see what your best channel would be (in 2.4 and 5g ranges if applicable) is a good idea. Routers tend to be on auto selection by default and this can cause big issues, especially if there is a router nearly out of range or some idiot turns theirs off occasionally.
Your internet speeds are also not of concern unless you are trying to access these devices outside of your home.0 -

Thanks, am going to try that out.0

Thanks for your replies. I've now tested the channels and we don't appear to be sharing the channel with anyone.
It suggests that on 2.4ghz, we have one of the best channels although it recommends going onto 5ghz for better wifi (is this usually only for superfast broadband or does it depend on the router itself)?
We will try moving the router a little too, if you think that might help?
Finally, I spoke to Ring doorbell and after some tests they are suggesting I need to speak to Sky about the slow upload speed (but that may be them passing the buck)?!0 -
Could it simply be that the doorbell in particular isnt getting good wifi reception (or generating a strong enough signal) - is it screwed into a brick wall for example? You may be able to test the signal strength with a smart phone or laptop held near the devices. If this is a problem cheap wifi extenders are readily available and work well. Moving the router nearer the devices may help depending on the layout of your house.
Whether you get slow upload speed or not on your broadband connection is totally irrelevent.0 -
Thanks, but the speeds are the same near the doorbell and the router, already tested.
And the router is about 1m away from the doorbell, separated by a wood and glass front door and an internal wall.0 -
Get a decent WiFi router and sack off the cheapo ISP supplied router.
Always amazes me when folk blame their ISP for the crap WiFi signal and are willing to shell out on faster speed broadband in an attempt to rectify it.
In a way I would blame the ISP - for supplying the cheapo crap router but you know what I mean.0 -
Thanks, had no idea that was an option. As I said I am pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff.0

Sky router? Copper connection using ADSL (not fibre)?
Then take care. Username and password built into router and not easily accessible -can be done with technical competence - and you need them for a third party router!
Unless you can tackle the technical solution you might be wasting your money!
Sounds more like your other equipment could never fault.....0
