Advice about switching supplier alongside moving

We have just been hit by notice that our current energy bill will go up from £65pcm to £142pcm next month. Eek!
Both gas and electricity are through British Gas. We were on a fixed rate for a while but that has come to an end and I know prices have been hiked by BG recently so I'm not surprised there is an increase but wasn't expecting this much!! I'm obviously keen to find a better deal either with BG or willing to move to another supplier but one thing is holding me back... we are due to move house soon (currently awaiting exchange date - perhaps I should join that thread on the forum too!)
So my question to the group is, do I switch now regardless of when we end up moving or does it make more sense to wait until we have moved and have to move our contract with BG over to a new address as well?
Suggestions welcome!
Thank you.

Welcome back after 5 years!
Why wait any longer to start saving?
Almost all suppliers/tariffs do not apply early exit fees for ealy exit due to change of address (but do check carefully to ensure you don't pick a very odd one that does)
Exchange is one thing, but completion can be a very, very long way down the road. Check your contract for when that may be.
Switching supplier takes a minimum of 17 days, and may take up to about 5 weeks. Transfer of tariff (remaining with same supplier) usually happens the day you apply, if you apply direct.

You won't be taking your contract with you when you move.
You will be in a deemed contract with whoever supplies your new property, once you have registered with them (essential) you can either sign up for one of their tariffs or initiate a switch to your supplier of choice (which could be BG or another supplier, up to you).
BG might already supply the property but that would just be coincidence, you'd still start a new account with them in that event.
Likewise, whoever buys your property will begin a deemed contract with whoever is supplying you on the day you move out. Switching away from BG before then would at least save your buyers from being stuck on BG's expensive Standard Variable Rate (SVR) while they choose their own supplier.
If you're on good terms with your buyers you could even ask them if they have any preference on which company they'd like to be in a deemed supply with.
Early exit fees don't usually apply when a property changes hands, but even so, if you do switch I'd suggest picking a tariff with no exit fees, and only switch if there is at least one month before completion.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day).
