This morning a very helpful Santander agent suggested I should make an enquiry using D.S.A.R service: for £10 apparently they can provide PPI info about any account, even without a/c numbers. I'm not seeing this option mentioned anywhere on MSE.
Has anyone tried this, and does it really work? I'm not having a lot of success with older/cards/accounts.
thanks

I assume they mean a Data Protection Act Subject Access Request. Basically all this does is ask them to provide all the information they hold on you. However under the DPA they are only allowed to retain Data for a 'reasonable period' which is generally accepted to be 6 years. Bottom line is they may no longer hold any info so up to you if you want to spend £10 to find out.0

thanks - yes, Data Subject Access Report. The point was, that the Santander person (who had been very forthcoming, but said she'd reached the limit of what she could access) implied this was a separate agency, nothing to do with Santander. my query is actually about an Alliance & Leicester product. from the early 1990s!0 -
Yes, that's a thing, see here: https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/personal-information/
It's part of the data protection act. If Santander have any access to the records from then, this will fish it out. However if the data has been deleted, it wont find anything. There is no separate agency that the data will be held by, however! If Santander doesn't have it, nobody will.

SARs are mentioned in numerous threads on this forum. Here is a thread (and SAR template) which runs to 25 pages:good_cooker wrote: »I'm not seeing this option mentioned anywhere on MSE.

A Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) does legally require the Bank to send all information which has been kept on file for you. However, if records have been deleted in line with Data Protection legislation then there will be nothing to send. In addition, if you don't have actual account numbers, the information may not be easily accessible from address details etc.good_cooker wrote: »Has anyone tried this, and does it really work? At the end of the day, it's your own choice whether to gamble £10 on relevant information still being available.0 -
Thanks - I did look hard, using all sorts of variations of SAR & DSAR - but in-site response always came back zero! Thanks for standing in for their search tool!0

Hi All,
sorry to resurrect the thread but I have just received a full SAR for free from Halifax.I had written a normal letter explaining that i was looking to find account info from 2002 to support PPI challenges. They still had everything....
Hope this is helpful
