Audio output on my TV?

Ive inherited a tv, the audio fails after about 20 mins then come back periodically.
Is my best (cheapest!) option to buy external speakers for it?
I wont be using it as a tv but for the xbox one for netflix and gaming. I dont currently own a hifi but could get one if that makes set up easier

I would anyway, just get a soundbar. Once you've had external speakers you'll never go back. They absolutely transform the sound. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I cant see anything labelled as audio output, at the risk of sounding awfully stupid would the soundbar connect by hdmi? or the coaxial output? I dont want to buy something that isnt fit for purpose as I struggle getting to shops to return things

eta this https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7068210 will connect to the headphone socket so unless im missing something glaringly obvious i think this is my best option, under £50 too!0 -
It looks like there's a headphone port on there which would be the cheapest solution to use as you could connect a set of cheap speakers to that.
Some soundbars have several HDMI inputs then an HDMI connection up to the TV so you'd plug the Xbox One into the soundbar first which would handle the audio and the TV the display. There is a risk with using the headphone port that the fault isn't with the speakers and you'd get the same drop out with the speakers plugged into the headphone port.

Speakers on TV's were perfectly fine untill the manufacturers decided to make the screen near 100% of the front leaving no roomfor decent speakers. They knew what they were doing and have made the soundbar a required addon.
Back to your issue OP. HDMI would carry sound but it does not appear your TV supports HDMI out (fairly usual). However you have headphone sockets. These will supply sound out for you to use.0 -
I shall try this then, thank you!
To test the audio first, i will use it with headphones for a bit!0 -
Great idea. If the audio still cuts out then all is still not lost if you watch TV via Sky or with another set top box as you could take the audio out from that. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

If the fault with the audio is in the electronics before the feed to speakers AND headphone socket, then it's likely to be faulty whatever you connect to it. There'll be an audio output pin on the SCART socket, but the fault may well be upstream of that, too...0

Yep, the only sound output on the TV is the headphone socket, which you might use, depending on how much you want to spend, but as above, test it to make sure it's not suffering the same problem as the speakers.
Next, if you're only plugging things (like the XBox) into the TV, then you would generally split off the sound first. IE, XBox - Soundbar - TV. The picture gets passed through. What you're looking for then, is a soundbar with HDMI, but you can also get by with optical digital - this can go to any audio system that has it, whilst the HDMI goes to the TV. You can get by with analogue too. Depends on how good/convenient/expensive you want it to be. An old stereo with optical digital in might be very cheap on Gumtree for example.0
