eBay: item not as described but can't send back in original condition. What to do?

  • Hi unfortunately the compatibility chart is only a guide provided by ebay
On most vehicles there are options that is why we put the item details including sizes in the technical information in the adverts
to check prior to purchasing as we are not responsible for return postage costs on incorrectly ordered parts

    Is the response.

Not sure what to think about that. He's basically saying it's eBay at fault for misleading me into thinking the air filter will fit. Right? Wrong?

Yet i've sold car parts recently too. I sold an oil filter and it wasn't eBay telling me what cars it would fit, i had to manually select them. I know the filter fits more than the car i bought it for, a good number more cars, but i couldn't remember them and because of this i only listed the car i bought it for. Sure enough when the ad went live - that's all that was shown in the compatibility wizard thing.

So from the experience i have, it's not eBay's fault at all as the seller selects the compatibility, not eBay.

Why waste so much time and mental energy on this, when the amount of cash involved is so small? You made assumptions based on the seller's silence and those assumptions proved incorrect. Annoying, yes - but not worth so many posts for so little potential return.

What does it matter to you whether i choose to spend a few minutes discussing it each day?

Never understood those who criticise others for posting. If they choose to post then it's their choice so let them. They're not harming anyone.

You could give me a run down of your day and i'm sure i'd find equal or more time spent on things i'd consider a 'waste' ... but it'd be your choice, not mine, to spend your own time as you please.

I've just spent 5 minutes adding to another thread on this board regarding a £2.80 item that I was unhappy with - so I agree that it's daft to be criticised for 'wasting time' on low value items. Also, it's the principle and lazy sellers shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

Anyway, I think that if you open a SNAD case EBay will require the seller to cover return postage by issuing a returns label. If the seller doesn't respond you will get an automatic refund and be able to keep/dispose of the filter.

Indeed. I personally think thousands of people waste a whole lot more time during the football season when they watch Liverpool for example but that's their choice, not mine :T

And i did a bit more digging last night & found the second half of what you said so i'll go down that route i think.
