Fence posts - ran out of concrete halfway!

Spent the past couple of days puppy proofing our garden and we also wanted to put a small gate at the side of the house to divide the front from the back.

The gate and the side bits of fence either side of it (only about 12"-18") will be about a metre high so we got 6' posts and dug 2' holes. Problem is we ran out of materials before we got done so one of the holes is only a third to a half full of concrete so the concrete depth is only around maybe a foot. Will it be ok to put more in tomorrow to fill the hole up or will it not set properly or be strong enough since it's been done in two halves?

(The post will be the one the gate latch goes onto, not the one that will carry the hinges.)

    Hi

This is fine pouring the rest of the mix in tomorrow. If you have any iron rods or steel bars handy, or anything of a similar discription, put them in to the mixture you have already poured in so when it comes to the new mixture being poured in tomorrow, it will act like a reinforcement, if you see what i mean.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers ritesh.

We did actually hunt around for something like that last night but didn't find anything and all stores/builder's merchants were shut by then.

We poked a few holes in the concrete so the new stuff would go in there and hopefully get a better grip that if it was poured onto a flat level surface. Although since it wasn't reinforced, maybe that wont have done much good and we're just kidding ourselves, lol.

It'll grip to the post, it will be fine. It's in compression anyway.
